Chuck Close said, "It has to be wrong before it's right." Don't be afraid to make mistakes. I purposely make mistakes in a painting just to see how far I can go with the damn thing. More often than not some of these mistakes become part of the painting. I never consider a painting finished only that it has reached a point of visual discovery that seems right.
